It's not very often that you hear about female serial killers. I want to talk about a few woman who have landed spots on the most notorious list. Let's start with Aileen Wuornos "The Florida Highway Killer". Between 1989 and 1990, Aileen Wuornos murdered seven men. She supported herself and her girlfriend by prostitution. She claimed her murders were carried out in self defense against men who were attempting rape, but the court felt the bullet-ridden bodies told a different tale. She was executed by the state of Florida by lethal injection in 2002. Wuornos would pose as a hitchhiker and often using her position as a sex worker, she would lure her victims to remote locations before turning on them with a .22 caliber pistol. Her victims were Richard Malloy (51) an Electronics store owner in Clearwater, FL. He was a convicted rapist who she claimed to have killed in self defense. he had been shot several times, two bullets to the left lung were found to have been the cause of death. David Spears (43) a construction worker in Winter Garden, FL. His nude body was found along Highway 19 in Citrus County, Florida. He had been shot six times. Charles Carskaddon (40) a part time rodeo worker was found in Pasco County, FL. He had been shot nine times. Peter Siems (65) retired merchant seaman who devoted much of his time to a Christian outreach ministry. His car was found in Orange Springs, Florida. Wuornos' palm print was found on the interior door handle. His body was never found. Troy Burress (50) a sausage salesman from Ocala, Florida was reported missing on July 31st, 1990. On August 4th, 1990 his body was found in a wooded area along State Route 19 in Marion County, Florida. He had been shot twice. Charles Humphreys (56) a retired U.S. Air Force Major, former state child abuse investigator, and former Chief of Police was found on September 12th, 1990 in Marion County, Florida. He was fully clothed and had been shot six times in the head and torso. Final victim, Walter Jeno Antonio (62) was a trucker, security guard, and police reservist. On November 19, 1990 his nearly nude body was found near a remote logging road in Dixie County, Florida. He had been shot four times.
Let's talk about Jane Toppan next. She is also known as "The Nightmare Nurse" or "Jolly Jane". Jolly Jane was a Boston area nurse who used morphine to kill 31 of her patients. For a long time, nobody suspected a thing. She claimed to be an "Angel of Death", meaning she viewed her murders as a way of "putting people out of their misery". However, researchers say Toppan received a sexual thrill from killing, which is extremely uncommon for female murderers. Toppan began training as a nurse at Cambridge Hospital. Once she became close with the patients, she picked her favorite ones. The patients were normally elderly, and very sick. She believed she was helping them. She used her patients as guinea pigs in experiments with morphine and atropine. She would alter their prescribed dosages to see what it did to their nervous system. She would make up fake charts and medicating them to drift in and out of consciousness and even get into bed with them. She would then administer a drug mixture to the patients she chose as her victims, lie with them and hold them close to her as they died. She also killed her landlords in 1895. In 1899 she killed her foster sister Elizabeth with a dose of strychnine. After her trial she confessed to her lawyer that she killed 31 people and that she wanted the jury to find her insane so she could eventually have a chance at being released. She remained at Taunton Insane Hospital for the rest of her life. She told reporters that if she had been married and had a happy family she never would have started the killings.
Next I wanna talk about Nannie Doss. Nannie was a black widow who went through five husbands before being caught and charged with a slew of murders including those of her five husbands, a mother-in-law, her sisters, two of her children, and even her own mother. She was never put to death (because she was a woman) and died in prison at the age of 59 in 1965. In total she killed 11 people by poisoning them with rat poison or arsenic. The reason she killed was because people didn't treat her the way the books said they would. Either that or they got in the way of letting that happen. All of her victims were family, either by blood or marriage links. She killed her 2 middle daughters, Frank Harrelson, Arlie Lanning, Arlie Lanning's mother, her sister Dovie, Her granddaughter, her grandson, her mother Lou Hazle, her son-in-law Richard Morton, and Sam Doss. It wasn't until her last murder that anyone was even suspected. The doctors just assumed it was of natural causes and Nannie was such a great actress that no one ever questioned her. Creepy.........
